about

The story of "The Painter".
For anyone who has ever lost someone extremely close to them you will understand what I am talking about.
When i lost my wife to "Pompe" disease I was devastated.

She had been in a coma for several weeks and the doctors kept telling us she had no brain function, only brain stem activity. About a month before this she had told me she did not want to be kept alive by machines. So, the time had come. We had to let her go. She did not want this and I had to keep my promise. Her family and mine were by her side her last moments. I could not let go of her hand. I cried harder than I had ever cried in my entire life, until I had nothing left inside of me. Throughout the funeral I felt empty. I kept thinking, "why am I not crying"? Was everyone wondering the same thing about me? Finally after weeks had gone by I broke down and cried again. I was sick of everyone telling me she was in a better place. I know she was in pain so obviously she was, but without her I didn't know what to do. (This is what the entire 1st verse of The Painter is about. I wrote it about a month after she died)
Later i was introduced to someone who made me feel whole again. A woman, oddly enough, with the same name as the woman I had lost. I was made to feel horrible by several people that I would even think of being with her. I didn't care. I fell in love again, something I thought was impossible. We are now married and have 3 boys that I love with all my heart. I still miss her, but I know now where I was going. I would not give up my family for anything. You don't always end up where you thought you would, but sometimes it's where you need to be. (This is the 2nd verse. I wrote it 6 months ago)
This song is very personal and special to me. It has been many years in the making. I hope you enjoy it.
